Sometimes pictures lack... pizzazz, a certain mystery to it that makes it riveting. Here's a special touch you can add to your pictures to create that effect.
1. Open an image.
2. Duplicate the first layer.
Layer> Duplicate Layer
3. Convert the second layer into black and white.
Image> Adjust> Desaturate.
4. Adjust the brightness/contrast.
Image> Adjust> Brightness/Contrast. Input these numbers: -5 for brightness; +30 for contrast.
5. Change the second layer's option to Overlay.
On the layer palette (found on the lower right), change the blending option from Normal to Overlay.
